Stars

Notes

Marie: Shameless pop. With a mini-moog and a children’s choir. Per: Keith Emerson goes clubbing. And yeah, there’s probably nothing that threatens your credibility as much as bringing in a children’s choir. So obviously we had to have one. He who dares wins. Marie: I haven’t heard a children’s choir since “Sing” with The Carpenters. Per: The Carpenters? I thought you were listening to “Machine Head” with Deep Purple in those days. Finally the truth is creeping in.

– Have A Nice Day track by track, 1999

Originally written as a straight rock track driven by a heavy guitar riff, “Stars” made a complete transformation in the studio. Keith West’s 1967 tune “Excerpt From A Teenage Opera” inspired the use of a children’s choir. Released in multiple re-mixes for club use, the song managed to get Roxette up on the dance floor. Not a small feat.

Per: Hey, I did really serious demos back in the days! Took forever. Nowadays it’s just me and a guitar. The rest is left open to the main brains and the studio wizardry of Chris and Clair.

Roxette – Original Version 3:56

You keep on walking on the other side, other side, other side
You keep on walking on the other side, other side, other side

Wherever you go, I’m going with you
Shouldn’t you know I’m bound to follow?
Whatever you say, whatever you do
I give you a clue, I’m gonna follow

And the stars will show where the waters flow, where the gardens grow
That’s where I’ll meet you

Why don’t you let me, let me come along?
Na na na na na na
Why don’t you open, make me come along?
Na na na na na na

Wherever you go, I’m going for you
Oh, I was truly born to follow
Like fire and wood and paper and glue
Only a few were born to follow

And the stars will show where the waters flow, where the gardens grow
That’s where I’ll meet you
And the sun will glow, melting all the snow, knowing all I know
That’s where I’ll meet you

Stars will show where the waters flow, where the gardens grow
That’s where I’ll meet you
And the sun will glow, melting all the snow, knowing all I know
That’s where I’ll meet you

And the stars will show, every breeze will blow, knowing all I know
That’s where I’ll meet you

That’s where I’ll meet you
